The "Don't Bite the Newbies" Incident was a period of HCM that began on October 1st, 2010 and finally petered out on October 17th.^[1] It centered on a perceived overuse of the "rollback" function by Cabal member and uber-editor Human that was first broached by Nx on Human's talk page.^[2] Eight days later, Phantom Hoover posted a complaint about Human's liberal use of rollback in the Chicken Coop, which went unnoticed for several hours. Blue then obliquely alerted Human about the complaint,^[3] leading Human to respond;^[4] this set off the HCM. While the "debate" sides fluctuated, the prosecution (those who favored penalizing Human) generally consisted of Nx, ListenerX, Blue, SuspectedReplicant, and Phantom Hoover; coming to Human's defense were (apart from the man himself) MarcusCicero and newer editor Aphoxema. Not wanting to take sides, Gooniepunk2010, Armondikov, Bob M, Weaseloid, Totnesmartin, Ace McWicked, and a few others attempted to proffer neutral opinions on the matter without talking about the accusation against Human directly, however, most agreed that while perhaps not constituting abuse, Human's actions were "against the spirit of the wiki."^[5]

The end result, as observed by MarcusCicero,^[6] was that very little was done except a bitchfest and a residual slap on Human's wrist. Welcome to resolving problems the RationalWiki way!

Human promised to do better, using "undo" in order to leave edit comments, or at least posting to the talk page what he undid. However, on 27 November 2010 he again reverted a BoN without explanation on two articles, LSD^[7][8] and Psilocybin,^[9][10] claiming the edits were devoid of content^[11][8] and crap,^[12][13] but he couldn't be bothered to post to the talk page because it was too hard to cut and paste the edits.^[14] Nx reverted Human^[15][16] and blocked him for "Editing Under the Influence".^[17] Human went to Nx's talk page to tell him to "get over it" and mind his own business.^[18] Shortly after that he decided to leave and never come back and block himself for 3 months.^[19] As usual, he came back as a transparent sock a few days later, called Asterisk.^[20][21]
