[edit] Holyroller and stuff
You are one.Ty 01:31, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- you can say that again. Rrose Selavy 10:55, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
[edit] This
[1] may be of interest to you and Mr. Gordon. Ty 19:42, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
- Oh yes, that is interesting, thank you Ty. --Maratrean 09:19, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
[edit] Janitor
I have given you janitor rights. You can help me sweep up the garbage now. Enjoy. Punky McPunkersen 00:29, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- Why thank you Punky. --Maratrean 06:18, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
[edit] storm in a tea cup?
You made an excellent point here, but is storm in a tea cup really a saying? What does that even mean? It just struck me as a little odd. But really, I can't help but agree with your otherwise eloquent and thoughtful post.
Also, apart from having your own religion, why is it exactly that everybody seems to hate you? You actually seem quite nice. Am I missing something? And what, exactly, is everybody's problem with you having your own religion?
Finally, I'm taking a little wiki-break. So if anybody wonders why I'm not jumping in any great debates, that's why. I've entrenched myself in some drama and I feel it's best for me to take a step back, let human and listenerx have their way with my massage article (and yes, I do mean rape. To be clear, I do not like the direction in which it's gone. But this is a wiki. I know that), I won't be trying to flame nutty roux, and I won't be trolling the (former) Encyclopaedia Dramatica mailing list by reminding them that the .ch fork has more traffic than Oh Internet. That last one is unrelated to RW, but I like to overshare. If you haven't noticed. And I'm putting that down here because RWW has few enough edits that everybody ends up seeing any changes. Think of it as a pork/rider bill on my message to Maratrean.--Brxbrx 22:53, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- I would be careful in saying that "everybody seems to hate [Maratrean]". I just don't think that is remotely true. I think a very small and loud minority dislike him and assume that everyone else does too. Although I don't agree with anything Maratrean says on the subjects of religion, metaphysics or the right to smoke, I have found him courteous and generally pleasant. I strongly suspect that my opinion would be the overwhelming majority on the site. I also note that he makes a lot of very good substantive edits, which is more than I can say for those who proclaim that "everyone hates maratrean". --Pinetree 00:15, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- that makes more sense. I too often believe the loud minorities (by believe, I do not mean "agree with," I mean I believe them when they say they are the majority). Maratrean has, in fact, proven to be a really nice guy, which is more than I can say for myself. He has a few unorthodox ideas, but so what. Everybody does. thanks for clarifying, pinetree--Brxbrx 00:22, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- Maratrean has some views I'd call exotic or nutty (idealism for example - dont ask to explain that, though), but he is a nice and overall rational and calm fellow. Many people agree with that. And looking at what he did in the philosophy section, he does some good work and we can be happy to have him. To be honest, with him we might build a philosophy section that doesn't sound like a guy in a lab coat skimmed a Wikipedia article (yeah, it sounds awfull but that's what it was).
- Yes the term "storm in tea cup" actually exists. Heard it often, still hearing it sometimes. --Ullhateme 00:38, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
- He's a crank... and he's not actually entirely accurate with all his philosophy stuff. A lot of it ends up sounding like some random guy who read a WP article and thought he understood it, and then abuses jargon and terminology for his own arguments (à la confirmation bias.) --Eira 00:56, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

To those who have said nice things about me, thankyou :) And Eira, I think you too often focus on minor errors (or even imaginary errors) in what others say, which aren't really relevant to their overall point. Too much pedantry is not a good thing. Maratrean 07:01, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
[edit] Sup
How's Ameriwiki? I find it funny that you seem to be the primary editor there last time I checked. Ty 12:07, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
- Naw, Civic Cat is editing too. And he is adding pictures. George said he's swamped with real life crap and will edit moar this weekend. I added a stub on Glenn Beck and will import a few of my own articles from ASK and Knowino later. But Ty, give George a break. He probably has a lot of real life crap. Just because I only work part time now and thus have hours on end to play retro SNES games doesn't mean everyone else has no life.--Colonel Sanders 23:16, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
- No, it is funny because it is a claimed americentric Christian 'pedia, and Maratrean is an Australian Maratrean. Ty 01:36, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, 'tis ironic indeed. I can't really be Americentric, being an Australian. Although the average Australian is so bombarded with American culture and news, we know America and Americans much better than they know us, although maybe sometimes the image one gets can be a bit out of balance, because only the more extreme stuff is considered TV-worthy. One sometimes gets the feeling that America is a bit oxymoronic — I like the quip I once read in the Economist "land of puritans and pornographers", although it just goes to show how distorted a picture on can get through looking in from the outside.
- As to Christian, well I have my own (Maratrean) interpretations of Christianity, which are probably rather different from George's. Actually, Maratreanism is a bit like the Borg of Star Trek, we'll assimilate any religion, and spit out some Maratreanised new version of it... well advanced on Christianity, because that is easy in this culture one knows it so well. A bit more cautious about doing the same to say Islam, don't claim to understand it so well. Maratrean 01:09, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

[edit] You are possibly my favourite person right now
It's like you decided that you were so utterly nutty in one aspect you would make up for it by being reasonable and likeable in all others, and it makes my head hurt. In a cool way. Keep it up, I loved your line about RW being an online frat party for nerds.

Good job on reverting the spam. I'll have to see if I can prod Nx into helping out with that a little, as he's good with putting up spam filters and the like. Punky McPunkersen 09:19, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
- I've messaged Nx all over the place to see if he can/will help us. Otherwise, this is gonna be one bumpy ride. Punky McPunkersen 10:10, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
- Longer term solution, there should be an extension which lets a person with sufficient rights (such as yourself) turn on/off anonymous editing, account creation, etc., as needs be. A simple quick solution, so one does not need to wait for someone with the technical ability/access. Maratrean 10:19, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
- The problem there, though, is that the only way to stop this current spam wave is by installing a new version of ReCAPTCHA, as had to happen when this same thing happened opn RationalWiki. For that, you need server access, and it's been a while since I last bugged Trent about geting some access for RWW regular/highly trusted members. RussianalWiki 10:23, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
- CAPTCHAs are helpful, but they often have a limited lifespan. They'll work for a while, and someone will work out how to break them. That is why I think it would be good to have an extension that let you update wiki-wide permission settings without having to edit LocalSettings.php. I've seen many wiki farms have something like that. The idea is, if someone breaks the CAPTCHA, you can respond immediately by turning off anonymous editing, or new account creation, or so on, and then you've bought time until the vandal/spammer goes away, or you've worked out a more permanent solution (such as, an updated CAPTCHA). [edit] WTF?
Why are you after banning PoliticalPrisoner? You should know I have been lobbying on your behalf for some time, even though you're a freak. 86.44.234.139 01:30, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry MC, who are you talking about? SR? Maratrean 07:36, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
[edit] You've been drinking again, haven't you?
Because otherwise this edit is a total mystery to me. --Ullhateme 14:59, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hey, you seem to be friendly to me. Now, maybe to other people you are something else entirely, but I don't claim to have been paying that much attention. Maratrean 02:34, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
- I think you're friendly, UHM. You have your disagreements with some, but only because they're assholes.--Brxbrx 03:00, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
- You have your disagreements with some, but only because they're assholes. This is an example of you saying stuff meant to piss people off. Stuff like that causes these petty rounds of arguing, so please try not to do it. Just FYI. Sam ® 05:53, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
- Look at it this way, he didn't name names. If he really wanted to just start another fight, he would have done so, wouldn't he now? Maratrean 07:41, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
- @Mara: Good to see that you're not obsessing over RW, more for you than for RW's sake. @brx&Sam: Yeah brx is right. There are others like WfG that also have a leaning toward the old mobocracy but I don't get in fights with people that don't really think "You're a troll! Fuck off!" is a legitimate argument. With some people I'm just a total jerk because I've noticed that no matter how friendly I am the response is the same, that way I can have at least some fun. Still wouldn't have nominated myself. --Ullhateme 12:52, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

- How can somebody fuck a whole cult? Like all the people in one? That's sounds like a lot of work… --Ullhateme 01:54, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
- Not if the cult in question is Maratreanism. ZING! 69.60.117.110 05:27, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
- Dearest BON, before you going insult me, please learn to spell correctly first. You wouldn't happen to be the author of the awfully childish spam on MCWiki today? "Mara and MC sitting in a tree"? How old are you? Are you 12 or something? (I think even most 12 year olds would think that kind of trolling to be childish and lame.) Maratrean 08:16, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
