Unlike the well-known neutral point of view of Wikipedia or the less-known-but-pretty-obvious crazy point of view of Conservapedia, RationalWiki articles are commonly written according to the so-called snarky point of view, abbreviated SPOV.

Snarky point of view is a style which, while (mostly) respecting the facts of the subject, also includes liberal (HAH!) amounts of mockery when such is called for.

One reason why SPOV exist is to give RationalWiki articles an edge that can make them interesting enough - or just provocative enough - to stand apart from other Wikis that are able to provide more encyclopedic, more humourous, or more lulz'ier content. Another reason is to make sure that as many articles as possible live up to the mission statement.

(Mostly, though, it's because the place would be terribly boring without it.)
